Volunteer
Brief Introduction

Join the community of attorneys and advocates at Pine Tree Legal Assistance working to increase access to justice for low-income Mainers!

A Black woman with her hair pulled back sits in front of a painting. She is wearing a gray peacoat, sitting with her hands folded in her lap, and smiling at camera.

  • As a Pine Tree volunteer attorney, you can provide services to the veterans’ community, homeowners seeking to avoid foreclosure, individuals facing tax, student loan, and credit card debt, students excluded from school, and tenants facing eviction.

  • Pine Tree welcomes attorneys with all levels of experience who want to use their skills and experience to increase access to justice in Maine.

  • Volunteers with expertise outside the legal field are also valued.  Clients need assistance from CPAs, enrolled agents, tax consultants, interpreters, and other professionals.

Volunteer Opportunities for Attorneys

Pine Tree welcomes pro bono assistance from attorneys around the state in various practice areas. To support your participation and ensure the best attorney/client interaction, Pine Tree provides malpractice insurance, a small litigation fund, training, and mentoring.

Did you know that attorneys can now earn CLE credit for pro bono service through PTLA?
If you would like to volunteer with PTLA, or you are interested in learning more, please get in touch!
Students
Pine Tree Legal Assistance (PTLA) is pleased to offer a variety of public service opportunities to undergraduate students, law students, and law school post-graduates.
Community Volunteers
Pine Tree occasionally has opportunities for non-attorney community volunteers on an as-needed basis. Opportunities may entail short-term or longer-term projects with varying time commitments. Interested community members are welcome to inquire about current opportunities using the form below, and to specify how many hours a week they expect to be available and for what period of time.
